DEMOPOLIS-This Saturday the Marengo County Historical Society will go back to their roots with an afternoon of French cuisine, music and entertainment at Lyon Hall.

Kirk Brooker, Director of the Marengo County Historical Society, said in celebration of The Year of Food in Alabama, the Society has chosen to highlight Demopolis’ French beginnings.

“We are doing this in celebration of the Alabama Bureau of Tourisms theme of “The Year of Food,” Brooker said. “We figured it would be fun to visit our beginnings and sample French cuisine.”

Brooker said the celebration also gives them a chance to showcase Lyon Hall, which is one of the city’s true treasures. Brooker said the society hopes this event and those planned for the future will highlight Lyon Hall and spark greater interest in the historic buildings of Demopolis.

“The Historical Society decided to put this on because we are trying to have an event at Lyon Hall once a quarter,” Brooker said. “By having events there we can keep Lyon Hal going and give the public the opportunity to enjoy what it has to offer.”

The evening begins with a Kir Royale at 6:30 followed by dinner and dancing until 10:00pm. Enjoy a buffet of hors d’oeuvres, entrees, desserts and wines with a French flare. You may bring your own spirits; set-ups will be provided.

The deadline for reservations was set at May 28 however, the society will accept reservations until this afternoon. Brooker said reservations would be required because of limited space.

“The date to make reservations was last Saturday, but we can accept them until 5 p.m. Wednesday,” Brooker said. “People will have to have reservations because seating is limited.”

The Society is a non-profit organization and $35 of the ticket price is tax deductible.
