GREENE COUNTY-Two very unusual burglaries in Greene County are thought to be connected according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. In the last week, criminals struck Christian Light Church and Sarpat Primitive Baptist Church with both suffering significant losses from the invasions.

Christian Light Church is believed to be the first hit. Greene County Sheriff Johnny Isaac said the break in was reported last Tuesday when the items were discovered missing.

“On May 31 we had a report of a burglary at Christian Light Church,” Isaac said. “They reported a Dell computer and keyboard, valued at $1,800 and the power surge, valued at $50 as stolen.”

Sunday June 5 the burglars struck again, this time at Sarpat Primitive Baptist Church. Isaac said it was hard to put an exact date on when the burglary could have occurred because the congregation met only once a month at that location.

“The Elder came in and he noticed that someone had taken an amplifier, a microphone and two speakers,” Isaac said. “The items were valued at $650.”

Isaac said the department could not be sure, but they believed the burglaries were connected. So far, there are no suspects, however the department will continue to investigate. Anyone with information on the burglaries should contact the department at 205-372-3242.

Another theft in the same time frame was reported in Boligee, however this theft was not believed linked to the church burglaries. Isaac said on June 1 the department received a call for theft of property and criminal mischief where a car battery, valued at $75, was reported stolen. Damage, valued at $400 was also reported to the automobile along with $100 in damage to the steering column.

The department also reported good news from last week. An arrest last Wednesday may have solved a case involving a missing purse at Hardee’s. Isaac said deputies apprehended Christopher Davis, 21, of Boligee on June 1 where he was charged with theft of property, second degree.

Las month a motorist traveling on Interstate 59-20 had stopped at the Hardee’s for dinner. When she left the restaurant she discovered her purse had been left behind. When she returned the purse had been taken off the table and no one knew its whereabouts. Davis, who was an employee of the restaurant, is believed to have been involved in the purses disappearance. As of Monday, Davis remained in Greene County Jail.
