A three-vehicle accident last Friday overturned a Ford Explorer and sent three Demopolis residents to the hospital, but fortunately the injuries were not as serious as by-standers at the accident might have believed.

According to information provided by the Alabama State Troopers office, at approximately10:10 last Friday morning an accident involving three vehicles occurred near the intersection of County Rd 54 and Highway 43 south of Demopolis.

Involved in the accident were Joshua C. Ray, of Faunsdale, driving a 1993-model Nissan; Darrell Cobb, of Gallion, driving a 1999 Chevy; and Alelia Edwards of Demopolis, driving a 1994 Ford Explorer.

The Troopers’ report did not list a cause of the accident, but in the collision Edwards’ Explorer overturned in the middle of Highway 43. Edwards and two juvenile passengers, ages 10 and 14, were injured and were quickly taken to Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Officials with Whitfield Memorial confirmed that Edwards and the passengers in the Explorer were treated and subsequently released.

The accident caused a prolonged delay in traffic on Highway 43 into Demopolis, causing several attendees of the Black Belt Action Commission’s meeting at the Demopolis University Center to arrive late.
