Well, the year was 1915.

Do the math….that was ninety years ago.

It was the year that the first Raggedy Ann doll was made.

It was the year that Einstein came up with his theory of general relativity. (I still don’t understand it.)

The Red Sox won the World Series (their glory days before their soon to be long drought) and Cornell was the NCAA football champions.

(Horrors…an Ivy League school).

The entire annual federal budget was 750 million.

(We spend three times that amount in one day now).

World War I was going on but it would be two more years before the U.S. would enter into it.

…1915…

Ninety years ago.

A long time ago.

Oh, and by the way, it was also the year that the Demopolis Chamber of Commerce was formed.

That’s correct.

The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce is ninety years old this year.

That is quite a feat.

It has been actively involved in the life of this city for all these years and has consistently served the community and its membership well.

And that is exactly what it is designed to do.

Its board changes, its chairman changes, its director changes, but its mission remains constant…..to serve the community and its membership.
