Trying to Spring clean but don’t know what to do with all that stuff that’s no longer useful? Not only is one man’s trash another man’s treasure, but the proceeds from the sale of those treasures could benefit some very appreciative women.

Sav-A-Life, which offers free pregnancy testing, counseling, Bible study and more to women experiencing crisis pregnancies, is getting ready for its annual fundraising yard sale. The sale will take place Saturday, July 9 from 7 a.m. until about 2 p.m.

“We’ve done this for the last nine or 10 years,” said Kathryn Gardner, one of the events organizers. “This year we’re doing things a little different though.”

In the past the sale has been held at the Sav-A-Life office on Walnut Street, next to the police department. This year, the larger items such as furniture will still be at the office, but the rest of the sale has been moved to the City Landing pavilion.

“This will provide some shade and shelter for our shoppers and our volunteers – it gets pretty hot on that pavement,” Gardner said. Additionally, the location will provide a water fountain, bathrooms and a place to play for the children while the parents shop.”

Also new this year will be food sales and possibly even entertainment.

All proceeds from the sale go to Sav-A-Life to pay for things like rent and utilities, Gardner said.

“We are a non-profit agency, so we rely on fundraisers and donations,” she said.

The office is currently taking donations of items for the sale, particularly large items like furniture, appliances and household items.

“In the past appliances and furniture have gone over really well,” Gardner said.

To make a donation, simply take items to the Sav-A-Life office on Tuesday or Thursday between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon or Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. or call Gardner at 289-2510, or director Barbara Sessions at 289-2273 or 295-8731. All donations are tax deductible.

The office is also in need of volunteers to help sort items, work at the sale or both.

“We also ask that everyone pray for the success of the sale,” Sessions said.
