Lynn Foster has now joined The Demopolis Times as Classified Manager.

Foster is responsible for the daily classified section, as well as the four shoppers guides – Marengo, Greene/Hale, Clarke and Wilcox.

“I was looking for a new challenge,” Foster said of her new job. She was previously assistant manager at Pier One.

Foster said she would like to make the job more now that she is here. “I hope to expand the classifieds,” she said.

She said the toughest part of the job so far has also been the best part. “Getting to know everyone,” she said. “I’m enjoying getting to know the people and the communities.”

Foster moved here from Massachusetts to help her mother take care of her grandmother, who is now 94.

“The hardest part about moving has been understanding southern ways,” she said, noting that one of the first lessons she learned was that southerners do not pass a funeral procession and ‘oh geez’ is a popular catch phrase.

Though she grew up in Massachusetts, both of Foster’s parents are from the area.

“My dad is from Tuscaloosa and my mom is from Gallion, but they met in Boston,” she explained. “He was a Mason and she was an Eastern Star. They went to the annual dance and she saw this man across the room and said ‘that’s the man I’m going to marry.’ That was my dad.”

As for Foster, she has not married yet, but said she loves reading about it.

“I’m an avid reader. I like mystery and crime, but I’m really big into romance,” she said. She is a member of the Demopolis Public Library’s book club and said she is beginning to get into crossword puzzles.

“My mom said it’s a great way to expand my vocabulary,” Foster said.
