LINDEN- A Linden home was destroyed by an electrical fire, but the majority of personal items and keepsakes were recovered.

Patrick Baugh said his mother’s home has been burning on and off since Wednesday.

No injuries had been reported as the home on 28 East was still on fire Monday afternoon.

According to Baugh, the fire began in the attic on the right side of the house.

“They were just going to renovate that part, but then it started again,” Baugh said.

He said the area fire fighters would come out everyday to put the flames out, but the fire would continuously re-ignite.

The fire would distinguish and rekindle in a different part of the home until it eventually worked its way from the right end to the left side of the home.

Monday, the fire was in the mid-section of the home, causing windows to burst and blazing its way back through the house from the left to the right.

Carroll Baugh, Patrick’s wife, said they are grateful to the local fire departments.

“They did a great job,” she said. “South Marengo, Thomaston and Linden responded and they worked hard.”

Baugh and his wife were able to recover “a lot of stuff” including his old football pads, some furniture, paintings, clothes and other keepsakes.

Baugh said the fire stations have basically given up on the home at this point.

He chuckled as he thought about what his father used to say about the home.

“He said, ‘If this house ever catches fire, they won’t be able to put it out.'”

Baugh’s father was right. The flames on Route 28 East will distinguish on their own time.
