Beginning this fall, Alabama Southern Community College will offer leadership scholarships to first-time freshmen who are planning to attend the Demopolis campus.

There will be ten $2500 scholarships awarded. Awards will be distributed over three semesters: fall, $500; spring, $500; and summer, $250.

Dr. Arthur Ogden, Demopolis campus director for Alabama Southern, said leadership scholarships are available to any high school graduate entering college for the first time at the Demopolis campus this fall. Traditional and nontraditional students are welcome to apply.

Nontraditional students might include those currently in the work force who might be looking into a job change or even a single mom interested in continuing her education, Ogden said.

Augusta Watters, T.R.I.O. specialist for the Demopolis campus, will head up the leadership scholarship program.

Registration for classes will be August 17, and classes begin August 18. Leadership scholarships will be awarded before the start of the fall semester.
