LINDEN-Marengo Academy held orientation for new students Wednesday.
Guidance counselor, Jean Adams said MA hosts orientation every year.
“The only thing that’s changed is that we have a new headmaster,” she said.
The students had the opportunity to meet their homeroom teacher, Mrs. Gills, and the school’s SGA officers.
They were given packets that included class schedules, the daily schedule, and the dress code.
“Mr. Holley told me he would send people home if they weren’t in dress code,” Adams told students.
Other information included PTA and Girls Scouts data.
The packet also gave the school motto: “It’s good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best.”
Gills discussed the rules for tardies and absences. She also told students they would be tested on the handbook once each student has received one and the class has spent time reviewing it.
Afterward, students were split up and sent on a tour with one of the SGA officers.
They visited their lockers, which had the name assigned to the gym, cafeteria, counselor’s office, and classrooms.
Adams said the 18 boys were the most ever in an incoming class. There were only six girls in the entire group.
“We’re proud to have you on our campus,” Adams told the students. “Knowledge is power and this is where you get it.”
Adams said she is looking forward to a wonderful and great school year because she’s never seen students so ready to get back to school.
