DEMOPOLIS- Mayor Cecil Williamson called area pastors together to pray for the nation as Katrina arrives.

The prayer circle began at 10 a.m. in the Demopolis City Hall Monday.

As they stood hand in hand members of the Demopolis Ministerial Association, said a prayer for the city, its residents and the nation.

“The city can only do so much and we need God’s help as much as we need the help from the police and fire departments,” Mayor Williamson said. “I feel like it’s my role as mayor to be sure to use every resource available.”

Ministers hoped to “pray up a storm of holiness and pray down a storm of evil” as they fellowshipped in City Hall.

After the prayers were said, the group joined sang “Praise God.”

A special prayer was said for Mayor Williamson and Demopolis City workers in city’s time of need.

Williamson hopes to have regular prayer meetings which will be open to the public.

“I’m hoping to come up with a plan to come together not just in time of emergency.”
