YORK-Marineal Wilborne and Linda Munoz will be attending the Jubilee Festival in Daphne on Sept. 10. The Southeast Tourism Society has selected the Jubilee Festival as one of the Top 20 Events for September in this entire region. At this Eastern Shore locale, selected artists will set up booths to show and sell their art to the public.

Linda Munoz is a resident of Cuba who has been working with stain glass for over 25 years. A few years ago, she began the Cotton Patch Studio at 101 N. Broad St. in York, where she continues to work on her craft and teach others how to master the art of glasswork.

Marineal Wilborne of Cuba was one of these students, and she now works as Linda’s official Assistant. Wilborne has suffered a stroke and heart surgery. She began taking classes with Linda, and it has functioned as a way of art therapy. When she began, it would take her intense concentration to steady her hand and finish her piece. However, now she finishes her elaborate and beautiful works of art with relative ease.

They will also be featured at the Three Foot Art Festival at the Three Foot Building in Downtown Meridian on Oct. 8, 2005.

Linda Campbell, a former teacher a Patrician Academy, is another glass artist who works with Munoz and Wilborne, both of whom are former nurses. She has been described as having the talent of “painting with glass.” York is very proud of their glass treasures. Their shops on Broad Street have attracted countless fans within and without of the state, and the glass studios by the railroad tracks are among the more popular of York’s First Saturday events in the art district.

If one happens to drop by these studios, she will see glass mosaics, customized steeping stones, various window ornaments, and other stain glass pieces, including birdhouses, bird feeders, and bird baths. Just another part of the York Renaissance.
