It’s back to school for members of the First Christian Church of Demopolis as it kicks off its Loyalty Month Sunday.

“When school starts back, education for the church starts back as well,” Pastor Marshall Murphy said of Loyalty Month.

He said the month packed with activities and events is designed to get the congregation geared up for the Fall and Winter months.

“We go without evening services during the summer,” he said. “Evening services start back during Loyalty month.”

The action starts Sunday with movie night at 6 p.m. at the church. The movie will be “Hometown Legends,” which Murphy described as a Christian-based movie about a high school football team.

The activities continue Sept. 11 with a concert at the church featuring “Final Answer,” and the church’s annual picnic and bring-a-friend Sunday on Sept. 18. That day Sunday School will begin at 8:45 a.m. and the worship service will follow at 10 a.m.

Sunday, Aug. 25 will kick off Revival for the church, beginning with a joint Sunday School class at 9:45 a.m. and continuing with services at 7 p.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

“Our guest speaker will be Mike Bradford from Bardstown, Ky.,” Murphy said.

He said Loyalty month is a preview to the Bible study, which will begin Oct. 16. The first Bible study series will be taken from the Andy Griffith Show Bible Study Series.

“We will watch an episode of the Andy Griffith Show and then talk about parables and scripture as it relates to the lesson from the show,” Murphy said. “Loyalty month is a way to get the members excited about evening services and Bible Study.”

Several people had a hand in organizing the month of activities, and Murphy said he wished to thank the church members for their help and dedication to the church.

“Loyalty Month committee members were Waymon Qualls, Jackie Qualls, Mark Favela, JoAnn Baker, Ann Jackson and myself,” Murphy said. For more information contact the church at 289-3615.
