The University of West Alabama is planning the following continuing education classes for the Demopolis University Center for early 2006.

Calligraphy: A beginning class is to be taught by Carolyn Nelson. Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 for four weeks beginning on Jan. 10. Class size will be limited for more individual instruction. Sign up early.

Oil Painting: By popular demand Lynda Ray will teach another class in painting beginning on Jan. 23. Please register early so that supplies may be purchased and you are sure to have a place. These classes will be held Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. for six weeks.

Basic interior design: A new class in some of the basics of interior design will be taught by Kirk Brooker. Some elements to be covered will be vision, function, color, fabrics, furniture arrangement and accessories. The class will begin on Feb. 7 on Tuesday evenings and continue for six weeks. The time will be 6:30-8:30 p.m.

7-step chair canning: This class will be taught by Joyce Huizinga beginning on Jan. 18 on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30-3:30 p.m. for six weeks. Students may work on their own chairs or one provided by the instructor.

The Demopolis Board of Education will hold a meeting Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005 at 5:15 p.m.

Outsidein meets each Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come share the fun at Outsidein on Main Street in Greensboro.

Demopolis Habitat for Humanity

The Demopolis Habitat for Humanity invites area residents and college student who are in town during the holidays to volunteer at the home on the intersection of Washington and Chestnut streets. Saturday morning, volunteers will begin at 8 a.m. and will work until about 3 p.m.

U.S. Jones reunion meeting

The 2006 U.S. Jones School reunion meeting will be held at the Christian Chapel Life Center at 1 p.m. Please attend. All help and ideas are welcomed. Charles C. Hall, chairperson.

York Christmas Parade

Mark your calendars for Saturday afternoon, December 17th, when the York Christmas Parade will roll through downtown.

Call York City Hall at 392-5231 for information about participating in the parade.

Forkland Christmas Parade

Forkland will hold their Christmas parade Saturday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m.

DEC. 18

The Demopolis Fire Department will take on a team from New Era Cap Company in a basketball game to benefit Toys for Tots. The game will take place Dec. 18 at 3 p.m. in the Demopolis Middle School gym. Admission will be one toy, which will be donated to the cause.

During the month of January, 2006 annual County Garbage Exemptions must be renewed. Anyone who does not renew their exemption will automatically go back on paying status for the year 2006, no exemptions.

To qualify for an exemption a person’s only income must be from SSI or Social Security. Exemption forms are available at the Solid Waste Office and the County Commission Office. Forms will be mailed out by request only. All balances are due in fall to Arrow Disposal before an exemption can be processed.

The Solid Waste Office and the County Commission Office are located at the County Office Building next to the Courthouse. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
