COTR Jingle Bell 5K a success

The 2005 edition of the Christmas on the River Jingle Bell 5K was run Saturday morning and continued the event’s run of success and expansion.

More than 100 runners participated in the 5K, which raised funds for the Demopolis area D.A.R.E. program. As Christmas on the River has grown and more runners involved in the affiliated Tuscaloosa Track Club enjoy their trip to Demopolis, interest in the race has increased, says Race Director Johnny Brooker of the Demopolis Parks and Recreation department.

“We’re pleased,” he says. “The numbers were up from the past few years.”

Brooker says that, as always, race organizers received plenty of positive feedback both from local runners and members of the Tuscaloosa Track Club that made the drive for the race.

“To have them say, ‘This is my favorite run,’ or ‘We love to run here,’ it makes us feel good,” he says. “It makes it worth the effort.”
