LINDEN &045; All of the slots are full for Alabama’s famous white tail trophy buck hunt. The Marengo Academy sponsored hunt, which will be held January 4, 5, and 6, 2007 in &8216;Bama’s Buck Belt’, will take place during peak rut season on prime private hunting lands in West Alabama.

It is Marengo Academy 11th annual deer hunt.

The hunt was founded by John Holley and Leonard Mosley 12 years ago.

Twenty-five of the limited 50 hunters registered on this year’s hunt are returnees from last year. Guides and meals are included for all hunters. A southern style fish fry will nourish the hunters on Thursday night, hosted by a local hunting lodge owner. Friday’s feast will include a southern pride barbecue, featuring a whole hog and chicken.

Marengo County is an area that’s known for producing bucks weighing up to 300 pounds. Two-hundred-pound bucks are common on lands where upland crops have been harvested, as well as in hardwood bottom-lands in the Tombigbee River Basin.

Hunters in Alabama are allowed to take a buck and a doe or two does per day. Local landowner’s regulations prevail if different from state law.
