After months of questioning and a thorough investigation, Jermaine Marshall was arrested Thursday and charged with the murder of Marquis Rice.
Rice was shot outside the Zodiac Club in the early hours of Aug. 13 and later died from his wounds. Greene County Sheriff Johnny Isaac said he felt the thorough investigation and questioning had led them in the right direction.
“I think this pretty much wraps up our investigation,” Isaac said. “I think we have the right person and I think we have a good case.”
The shooting stemmed from an argument outside the club in which several shots were fired from several different guns.
Because of the high volume of shots it was difficult for authorities to determine who fired the fatal shot initially.
Though Rice received the most serious injuries, bullets struck several others. Anthony Thomas, 32, of Ralph, Dedrick Kirkman, 24, of Ralph, and Demetrius Little, 22, were all shot in the leg during the shootings. All were treated and released.
Alvin Underwood, of Eutaw, was also reported to have had his vehicle struck by gunfire. However, Underwood escaped injury.
Authorities estimated about two-dozen shots being fired in the incident.
Marshall remains in Greene County Jail. Bond is set for $100,000.
