DEMOPOLIS &045; Mayor Phillip White of Uniontown hosted a Thanksgiving lunch at the Uniontown Recreation Center yesterday for members of the community.

Elders and the disabled of the community were invited to attend the Mayor’s Thanksgiving Dinner. Food, entertainment and prizes were provided at no cost to those in attendance of the annual event.

Cynthia Maddox, the mayor’s assistant, said that those unable to come out to the lunch or drive themselves are either taken food or they are picked up and brought out to the dinner.

Maddox said that providing the funding for the event is a way for the businesses of the town to give back to the people of the community.

Maddox said that the event receives other support by the community other than the contributions by business owners. The food service, decorations, prizes and transportation provided for the event comes from the efforts of volunteers.

White said that he feels this is a way to give back to what he deems as the most important part of the Union town community.
