DEMOPOLIS &8212; Lieutenant Governor candidate Luther Strange and U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions were in town yesterday morning to raise support for the GOP&8217;s nominee to the state&8217;s second-highest office.

The two were met in front of City Hall by Mayor Cecil Williamson and the Demopolis High School band and cheerleaders. The visit was part of Strange&8217;s two-day bus tour through the state that started yesterday.

Sessions, who is from the Black Belt region, introduced Strange at the event. The two both mentioned their small town upbringing and stressed that they knew the values of rural communities.

Strange presented the main points of his platform during his brief speech after being introduced by Sessions.

Strange also talked about his desire to boost the economy of the state and mentioned his work bringing Hyundai to Alabama.

Strange expressed his desire to work with the Riley administration, Sessions and members of the state Legislature. He also expressed sentiment that his opponent in the race, Jim Folsom Jr., doesn&8217;t share that desire.

Billy Coplin, chairman of the Marengo County Democratic Party, felt the appearance by Strange was just a grasp for last minute votes.

Coplin felt that Folsom will do more good for the area and said that Folsom is looking to build a road from Muscle Shoals to Mobile that will help the area out tremendously.
