Sunshine smothers Lady Patriots

LINDEN &045; Tuesday night just wasn’t the night for host Linden Lady Patriots. The net seems to have had a lid on it. Linden dropped their fourth loss of the season to the Sunshine Lady Tigers, 39-21. &8220;We couldn’t get the teamwork going tonight,&8221; said Linden coach Katrina McKinley. &8220;We just hope to be ready for our next game.&8221;

The Lady Patriots made just one field goal in the first quarter, while Sunshine had its way on the offensive end. The Lady Tigers opened up a 14-2 lead to close the first quarter of the area contest.

The Sunshine offense sputtered in the second quarter, but Linden didn’t do any better. A total of three field goals were made between both teams. The Lady Tigers went into half time up 20-5. Sunshine’s Shafontaye Myers totaled 13 points at the half.

In young Lady Patriot team tried to get back into the game in the third quarter, but the Lady Tigers almost matched them point for point in the quarter. Sunshine continued it’s big lead after three quarters of play, as Linden only could get as close as 12 points.

The Lady Tigers continued the pace they started the game with, while the Lady Patriots continue to have trouble scoring and getting shots off. The Lady Tigers outscored Linden 10-6 in the final eight minutes.

Myers led all scorers with 27 points for the Lady Tigers (3-2, 3-0). She also recorded five steals. Keanna Tate topped Linden (2-4, 1-1) with six points.

Both teams go at each other again tomorrow, but this time the game will be played in Newbern.
