South Choctaw pounds Titans, 57-36

DEMOPOLIS &045; The defense in the second half turned out to be the nemesis for the West Alabama Prep Titans last night. They lose an area contest to the South Choctaw Academy Rebels, 57-36.

South Choctaw out scored the Titans 18-9 in the third quarter to pull away from a half time tie. West Alabama couldn’t recover as the Rebels took advantage of second chance shots in the fourth to put the game away.

In the first two quarters of the contest neither team could get more than a two-point advantage. WAP led 11-10 after one quarter and the game was tied at 21 after two quarters of play, in spite of the cold shooting by the Titans.

South Choctaw came out of the locker room and started the third quarter with 10 straight points in less than two minutes. WAP found themselves in the hole by double digits early in the quarter. They cut the lead to five points when Terrance Irby dropped in five straight including a three-pointer. The Rebels, however, closed the quarter up 39-30.

The Titans couldn’t get any closer, scoring only six points in the final quarter, while the rebounding of South Choctaw netted them 18 points in the quarter.

WAP was out rebounded 45-23 in the game. Irby and Steven Cocreham scored 11 points each for the Titans. Irby also grabbed seven rebounds. The Titans will host Sumter Academy in another area game on Friday.

Lady Titans bows to the Lady Rebels, 69-19

Lauren McDowell scored 10 points for the Lady Titans. Lana Stoker and Madison Poellnitz pulled down seven rebounds each.
