UWA out hits Stillman

TUSCALOOSA &045; The University of West Alabama baseball posted three runs on three hits in the eighth inning to pick up a 10-8 win over Stillman College on Wednesday afternoon.
UWA (2-2) tied the game, as Tres Avans scored on a fielder’s choice and Rob Dahlberg would plate the go ahead run, scoring on a Gilbertsen single to left field. The final run for the Tigers came when pinch hitter Clint Moody singled to center field to score Jake DeRoy.
R.J. Miller (1-0) picked up the win on the mound, pitching two and one-third innings, while striking out two and allowing one hit. Brent Telano earned his first save of the year with one inning of work, fanning one Tiger batter.
DeRoy and Gilbertsen had big days at the plate, as DeRoy went two-for-five in the contest with four RBI and a stolen base. Gilbertson went three-for-three from the dish with two RBI on the night.
UWA jumped out to an early 5-1 lead through four and a half innings, but a Stillman posted four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the contest.
Coach Gary Rundles’ squad would post two more runs in the visiting half of the sixth, but again the home standing Tigers would answer the bell, as Stillman recorded three runs in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-7 lead.
UWA finished the night 10 runs on 13 hits, as Stillman boasted eight runs on 11 hits.
Corey Coward and Rob Dahlberg chipped in two hits each.
West Alabama opens the home slate of the schedule, as the Tigers host North Georgia on Friday. The game is the first of a three-game, weekend series with the Saints. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
