Armed robber hits store

DEMOPOLIS &045; The Police Department arrested Charles Lee Black yesterday after an investigation into the robbery of the Mini Shop on U.S. Highway 43 South.

Black, 22, of Gallion was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery following the investigation.

Director of Public Safety Jeff Manuel said officers of the department responded to a report of the robbery at 8 p.m. Thursday evening. He said upon arrival to the scene officers were informed that a lone black male robbed the clerk at gunpoint and fled the scene with an undetermined amount of cash.

After the arrest Black was transported to the Marengo County Detention Center.

First-degree robbery is classified as a class A felony by state law and carries a sentence of no less than 10 years imprisonment and up to 99 years.
