DEMOPOLIS &8212; Newly appointed Assistant District Attorney Vince Deas has found the positions he wants where he wants.
Deas graduated from the Birmingham School of Law after receiving his bachelors in sociology at the University of Alabama and started a private practice, first in Birmingham and then in Huntsville. Two years out of school he went to work in Huntsville in the office of the Madison County District Attorney. Working in the office for three years, Deas received hands on experience in court and became familiar with the duties of a prosecuting attorney, yet he still wanted more. The Grove Hill native yearned to move closer to home.
The new job allowed both (Kathryn being a Tuscaloosa native) to relocate closer to their respective homes with their 3-year-old son, Vincent, in tow. Deas resigned from his assistant DA position in Huntsville and looked to opportunities to continue his work in the area.
Griggers said Deas experience as an assistant district attorney had a large part to play in hiring him on as a full time assistant. Though he has never had one, Griggers said a full time assistant would help him work move smoothly.
Griggers said his hiring of Deas is no judgment on the abilities of his other assistant district attorneys, rather he said since Deas doesn&8217;t have a private practice he will have nothing other than the work through the office do worry about. Deas said his presence would also loosen Griggers up to take care of the bigger cases that come through the office.
