Eagles work to their strengths

THOMASTON &8212; Eagles coach Mose Jones&8217; group doesn&8217;t have a lot of size or a huge number of players, most of which will play on both sides of the ball this year. What the group does have however is speed &8212; lots of speed.

Jones said the speed his team has can help make up for other things it doesn&8217;t have when it plays teams that can field larger players or more players. If fact, he said the group&8217;s quickness is something that makes it a threat to any team the Eagles face this year.

Jones said that gives him an edge when planning for his upcoming campaign. He said it allows him to adjust his offense, based out of the Power I formation, to make it harder to cover for opposing defenses.

Spreading the offense is something Jones admits he has wanted to do with his team for a while. He said the group didn&8217;t go to the air as much as he would have liked last year, but also noted he had a group of backs last season that could move the chains on the ground consistently so it wasn&8217;t an issue.

He said the group is also young so he is working to build the strength of his players, while at the same time trying to maintain the speed he has. He said he has been doing so this summer by hitting the workout room and working on agilities on the field.

He said he expects promising things from the group once the season begins, but he also said the group&8217;s success depends largely on building on their success once they get into the meat of the schedule.
