Gray, Smith, Washburn

Lavada Smith

DUCANVILLE &8212; Lavada Smith, 71, of Duncanville, died Aug. 3, 2007, at her residence. Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at Greenpond Presbyterian Cemetery. Interment followed in Greenpond Presbyterian Cemetery in Duncanville. The Rev. Mike Allen officiated. Visitation was from 6 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007 at Rockco Funeral Home.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Willie Norwood Smith; son, James Allen Smith; grandson, Jonathan Smith; brother, Virgil Carroll, and sister, Willodean Scurlock.

Survivors include five sons, Norwood Smith Jr. and wife, Kay, of Demopolis; David Smith and wife, Denise, of West Blocton; Ronnie Smith and wife, Becky, of Brent; Bobby Smith and wife, Lisa, of Newbern; Alan Smith and wife, Dena, of Demopolis; three daughters, Margaret Ann Pierson and husband, Mike, of Blocton; Sherry Robertson and husband, Derrick, of Demopolis; Sharon Ford and husband, Billy, of Duncanville; one brother, Olish Carroll, of West Blocton; 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Dustin Smith, Neal Smith, Tyler Smith, Paul Robertson, Jeffery Denham and Timothy Ford.

Nancy Plummer Washburn

SPROTT &8212; Nancy Plummer Washburn, 91, of Sprott, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Sprott. Funeral services for Washburn were set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at Marion Cemetery presiding clergy, Dr. Michael Brooks. Interment was at the Marion Cemetery in Sprott. Visitation was held for friends from 10 until 10:45 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 4, at the funeral home before the graveside service.

Washburn was born in Suttle on Dec. 31, 1915.

Her parents were Emmett P. Plummer and Nancy Oakes Plummer who preceded her in death. Her husband, Willie H. Washburn, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Cordelia W. Hugley and husband, Willard, of Marion, and Anne W. Beason and husband, Dwayne, of Sprott; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a caregiver, Gracie Riddle.

Pallbearers were Bill Bennett, Mike Bennett, Chuck Hughey, Chad Bennett, Jonathan Shields, Cooper Hain and Jason Sherrer.

Deacon Horace Gray Jr.

FORKLAND &8212; Deacon Horace Gray Jr., 79, of Forkland, died July 31, 2007, at Bryan Whitfield Hospital in Demopolis.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Forkland. The Rev. Dr. William M. Branch will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Public viewing will be held from 3 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Larkin&Scott Funeral directors of Demopolis are in charge of the arrangements.
