DEMOPOLIS &8212; Suttles Truck Leasing of Demopolis donated an Emergency Response Unit that is HAZMAT equipped to the Fire Department on Thursday.

James Suttles, who donated the unit, said his company used the truck for approximately 15 years to respond to overturned trucks and tankers in the field and to contain any hazardous materials before they became a problem.

Councilman Melvin Yelverton was also instrumental in the process, Suttles said.

Fire Chief Ron Few said the truck will undergo a remodel, in addition to adding a Demopolis Fire Department logo on the side.

For now, the truck will be stationed at Fire Station No. 2 until the department has found a permanent place for it.

Firefighter Michael Pope said he is looking forward to putting the unit to use in the department.
