Williams named director of the Demopolis Singers

DEMOPOLIS &045; Cloyde Williams, who serves as the musical director at First Presbyterian Church, was recently named the director for the Demopolis Singers.
According to Karen Davidson, president of the Singers, Williams is set to begin working with the group in the next month. They are unsure about the music choices for this season, but they will be determined in the next month.
In regards to his new role, Williams said, &8220;I’m a little nervous. I’ve never worked with a group like this, so I’ll have to learn a little more.&8221;
Williams was a graduate of Juliard and Columbia University and has been an adjunct
professor at the University of Minnesota before moving to Demopolis 19 years ago. He also was the principle clarinetist for the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra for 31 years. Williams also spent time in New York City working for Radio City Music Hall. Williams is also known for doing local concerts and performances on his clarinet.
For now, Williams said, the group is looking to do their regular season Christmas performance. Davidson said the performances will be on the Tuesday and Sunday after Thanksgiving.
