DEMOPOLIS &8212; Morgan Grimes, originally from Orville, started her position as librarian at the Demopolis Public Library on Tuesday, with help from Lindsy Gardner, outgoing library director.

Grimes did her undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama before beginning her masters program in Library and Information Studies, which she will complete in December. She has worked at the Selma Dallas County Library and has fostered a love of books since her youth.

Grimes said when she graduated from college, she was unsure what to do with her Public Relations degree. Her mother was a teacher and had gone back to school to get her master&8217;s degree in library science. She decided to follow in her mother&8217;s footsteps and went back to school.

Grimes said she was living at home for the summer when she heard about the position.

Grimes said one of her favorite authors is Winston Groom, who she learned about from a high school teacher. Shel Silverstein is another favorite of hers.

Grimes said during her time at the Demopolis Public Library she hopes to continue doing some of the work Gardner helped to start.

Grimes said there had been computer classes held in the past, and she wants to begin working to get those restarted. She said the classes would probably focus on basic computer skills and also how to use certain programs such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Grimes is also looking forward to making the community aware of some of the library&8217;s newest services, such as the Rosetta Stone technology, which is a software program designed to help people learn foreign languages.

Currently, Grimes has not made Demopolis her home and is living in Tuscaloosa, but she said she hopes to move here soon.
