In classrooms across Marengo county, desks are occupied and classes are in full swing. Superintendents from the three area schools systems say enrollment numbers for all of the county&8217;s schools have remained steady from last year or have increased. Official numbers will not be sent to the state until after Labor Day, but preliminary numbers look good, officials say.

Demopolis City Schools

In total this year, the Demopolis City Schools system boasts enrollment of 2,412 k-12 students,

and Superintendent Wayne Vickers said the beginning of school went well.

At Westside Elementary School, there are 601 students and also 34 Pre-K students. Enrollment numbers for U.S. Jones Elementary are at 511 students. Demopolis Middle School has 572 students enrolled. The numbers at Demopolis High School are at 728.

Linden City Schools

Interim Superintendent Scott Collier said, for being the smallest school system in the state, this year&8217;s numbers are looking good, a total of 501.

Linden Elementary School has 201 students. George P. Austin Junior High School has 113 students enrolled and Linden High School has 187 students.

Marengo County Schools

Superintendent Luke Hallmark said this year&8217;s enrollment numbers for Marengo Count Schools are up by 43 students from this year&8217;s projected enrollment. The total enrollment for the system is 1,518 students.

Hallmark said there aren&8217;t as many students going outside city limits to go to school, and parents have more options now than they used to about where to send their children to school.

A.L. Johnson in Thomaston has 291 students enrolled. Enrollment numbers for John Essex are at 211 students. Marengo County in Dixons Mills has 395 students. Sweet Water has 621 students enrolled.
