When Patrick George was no more than a teenager himself, he made it a mission to volunteer his time to help students get motivated and set goals for themselves. Today, he is a motivational speaker who travels all over the country to spread a positive message about goal setting and leadership.

George is a native of Georgia, but has been working and living in Demopolis since 2005 with his wife, Christi, and two children Leah, 8, and Maxwell, 6. He spent some time substitute teaching with Demopolis City Schools before teaching history at West Alabama Prep.

This year, George published his first book, &8220;The Little Black Book of Leadership Quotes&8221; and he is already head first into his next project, tentatively titled &8220;Quotes for the True Leader.&8221;

Both of the projects came out of his experiences out on the road, speaking to middle school, high school, college and professional groups. The first book is a quick read with quotes George uses when giving presentations.

Since writing his book, George said, his life has been very busy.

When he is not on the road speaking, he is rearranging his schedule to help promote the book. He said he has relied upon his family, and particularly his wife, to keep things running when he is out of town.

The next project George said he wants to work on is an activities book compiling all of the games and activities he has used over the years in training seminars and orientations.

He also hopes to work on a Christian-based leadership book in the near future as well.

Over the years, George said he has done many things, including working in Human Resources and managing a Dollar General. He says the thing he is most excited about, beside being a husband and father, is speaking and working with people.

The hardest thing about his job, George said, is dealing with the misconception that motivational speakers can come in and one visit will make everyone&8217;s problems dissolve.

The primary group of people George speaks to is high school, because he remembers how tough high school can be.

What he hopes to accomplish in his sessions is to bridge that gap and make an impact on them.
