Betty Mullinnix Atkeison

DEMOPOLIS &8212; Betty Mullinnix Atkeison, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Demopolis with the Rev. Richard Cobbs officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery with Kidd-Robbins Funeral directors directing services. Her family will receive friends at the residence.

Atkeison was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Because of her generosity and loving nature, her family and friends endeared her. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Demopolis.

Atkeison and her husband opened Jitney Jungle in 1946 in Demopolis and the store later became Food Fair, which they operated together until 1983.

Atkeison parents, George Mullinnix and Mary Elizabeth Cunningham Mullinnix; her daughter, Martha Atkeison Neilson; her sister, Martha Elsie &8220;Deedle&8221; Crocker Simmons preceded her in death.

Atkeison leaves behind her husband of 65 years, Wilbur H. Atkeison, of Demopolis; three daughters, Carolyn Webb and husband, Mem, of Demopolis, Sharon Lumpkin and husband, Eddie, and Susan Prestwood and husband, Tom, all of Birmingham; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dent Neilson, Stewart Webb, Brooks Lumpkin, Will Lumpkin, Claud Neilson and Fred Roeman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Pritchett, Clara Tucker Bud Boone, Tarmeika Hawkins, Zola Hawkins and Cleveland Cole; Betty&8217;s caregivers, Billy Pritchett, Sarah Harris, Eugene Carter, Burnette Thomas, Willa Tate and Dorothy Simmons; Dr. Judy Travis, nurses and staff; Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital Home Health nurses and staff; Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital nurses and staff and the ICU nurses and staff.
