Lady Panthers continue to maul

DIXONS MILLS &8212; After starting the season with two road victories, 69-42 over John Essex and 62-15 over A.L. Johnson, the Marengo High School varsity girl&8217;s team continued to prove their mettle by dominating J.U. Blacksher 75-27 at home.

The Panthers dictated their competition&8217;s play in the match up &8212; averaging just over 20 points a quarter to the Bulldog&8217;s average of just under seven points a quarter.

In the game, the Panthers gave J.U. Blacksher their best opportunity to lay claim to the game in the first quarter, where Marengo scored a game-low 13 points, but the Bulldogs could only put up eight points &8212; a tie with the second quarter for the most Blacksher points in a period.

The game went into halftime with the Panthers up 33-16, and the second half, too, belonged to the Black and Orange. The team posted 22 points in the third quarter and followed with 26 in the fourth, while holding J.U. Blacksher to a meager 11 points in the second half.

The Panthers ended the game with three players posting triple digits in scoring &8212; putting up 49 of the team&8217;s 75 points. Cassandra Thomas lead the way, putting up 19 points, with Kendra Lanier in a close second, with 18, and Linda Pritchett closing it out, with 12.

For J.U. Blacksher, the high scorer was Brittany Little, who managed eight points in the game.

The Panthers&8217; girls, along with the B-team and varsity boys, play tonight at home starting at 5 p.m. against Coffeeville High School.
