CAMDEN &8212; Today the Demopolis High School girls&8217; basketball team hits the road on the way to their second regional game of the season at Wilcox Central High School.

The group is characterized by a number of experienced players, which shows in the group&8217;s 4-1 record so far this season. But the experience is being tested this week as the group rebounds from its first loss last week at home against Selma High School, 55-35.

Head coach Tony Pittman said the loss, even though it came at the hands of a larger 6A group, showed some of the flaws in the largely solid Lady Tiger armor. First and foremost among those is the team&8217;s need to find themselves as a group.

Pittman said along with team chemistry another important mental hurdle for his group to overcome is maintaining a positive attitude in rough game situations like the 20-point loss to Selma.

Pittman said defensive play is important for his group, who thrives on fast-break points. He said Demopolis is one of the bigger 5A schools in the state but said his team is short compared to much of the competition they will see in their region and in the post season.

Much like attitude and team chemistry, Pittman said continual work on rebounding will be crucial for the group late in the season to overcome the size hurdle.

When the group gets off the bus today and hits the court, Pittman will see what kind of attitude and team chemistry his group carries as they face the second of six regional opponents in their way of the post season. A bounce back win will go a long way toward building a strong group for February.
