Our Opinion: Community steps up to fulfill blood needs

United Blood Services hosted two emergency blood drives this week in Demopolis to help replenish a depleted stock of blood supply following the holiday season.

According to UBS, there is typically a lack of donation during the holidays, resulting in the shortage every year requiring the need for post-holiday drives.

On Monday Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital hosted the first of the two emergency drives. The second was sponsored by the Demopolis High School JROTC and was held on Tuesday at DHS.

Thank you to BWWMH and DHS JROTC for sponsoring the events, and thank you donors for taking the time to give a much-needed commodity. Because of the community&8217;s concern, the blood drives were successful and many lives will be affected.
