SELMA &8212; Small mistakes have been the problem for Demopolis all year.

Those mistakes have led to close losses. Miscues rose again Saturday night against Selma, only this time the final result wasn&8217;t as close.

The Saints broke away from Demopolis in the second half and took a 56-43 win.

Offensive rebounds would be one of them. The Tigers (12-13) were constantly beat on the boards and got just four second-chance points in the first half.

Jeremy Wallace hit a pair of free throws to cap a 6-3 run, and the Tigers were ahead 13-12 with six minutes left in the first half. That lead slowly slipped out of their hands, and they found themselves in a 25-19 hole at halftime. Wallace led the team in scoring with 12 points.

Saints center Wendell Lewis scored the last bucket of the half with 45 seconds left when he slammed down a Jakobe Shannon layup attempt that glanced off the front of the rim.

Selma (22-5) started the second half on a 6-0 spurt and increased their lead to 12. The Saints went ahead by as much as 15, and the closest they let the Tigers thereafter was 11.

Down the stretch, Selma became sloppy and showed a little bit of frustration. Coach Willie Maxey Jr. wants to blame that on the workload his players have carried this week.
