GREENSBORO &8212; Ray McArthur Simmons, 65, of Greensboro, died Feb. 13, 2008, at his residence in Greensboro. Graveside services are set for 11 a.m., today at the Rosemont Cemetery in Uniontown. The Rev. Steve Vernon is the presiding clergy.

Simmons was born on Oct. 25, 1942, in Trussville to William Layfatte and Katherine Farmer Simmons. Simmons was a retired Army veteran and truck driver. He served in the U.S. Army for 27 years and he loved to fish.

His parents, one sister, Linda Lawrence and one brother, Wesley L. Simmons, precede him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Phyllis Simmons, two daughters, Sherri Arrington and husband, Russell, of Greensboro, Nioka Kelley and husband, Adam, of West Blockton, one son, Morris Simmons and wife, Courtney, of Dallas, three sisters, Shirley Legens and husband, Richard, of Brooksville, Fla., Paulette Cockrell and husband, Bill, of Haleyville, and Kathy Turvin of Opp, one brother, Terry Simmons, of Bronson, Fla., two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The pallbearers will be Adam Kelley, Christopher Bigham, Russell Arrington, Robert Martin, Carroll John &8220;C.J.&8221; Martin and Tim Simmons.
