SYLACAUGA – &8220;It was a tough loss,&8221; said Coach Jesse Bell of Friday night&8217;s loss to the Sylacauga Aggies on the road in Sylacauga.

Boy, was he right.

A game that looked to be a sure win for the Tigers for the first three periods, turned detrimental at the last moment. And for this instance, last moment means the last two minutes.

The Tigers jumped off to take the lead in the first, which they held the entire game. With only one second left, Terrance Irby scored a three-pointer and the Tigers held the lead at 25-14.

In the second period, Brian Taylor broke loose from the posse at the Aggie end of the court to rack up a dunk with 3:35 left in the second period.

As the teams went into the locker room at the half, Demopolis held onto their lead at 42-34. In the first half, the Tigers had 12 turnovers.

The Tigers came out of the locker room and played as though they were a bit worn-out. They allowed nine points in third, but only scored 12 as compared to 25 in the first period and 17 in the second.

With the end of the third quickly approaching, Casey Cantey put in his dunk for the night, which made the score 48-34, still in Demopolis&8217; favor.

Going into the fourth, the Tigers seemed to be getting weaker and weaker.

Demopolis suffered from multiple turnovers and a weakened defense.

With only 36.7 seconds left in the game, Sylacauga finally did what they had been threatening to do the entire second half: took the lead at 65-64 on a free throw.

From that point, they never looked back.

Sylacauga went on to score four more points on free throws and eventually won the game, 69-64.

Leading the Tigers on offense was Casey Cantey with a whopping 31 points followed by Brian Taylor with 11.
