DEMOPOLIS &045; The junior varsity Tigers dropped game one of a double-header with Clarke County 8-5 before riding a scintillating Chase Cameron performance to a 6-1 victory in the nightcap.

Battling arm soreness, Hunter Wells surrendered only three earned runs in the season opener. Shoddy defense plagued DHS throughout the game as it watched five unearned runs cross the plate en route to the loss.

The second game told a different tale as Chase Cameron dominated from the outset, striking out 10 and relinquishing only two hits on the evening.

His only rough patch came in the fourth inning when he served up the RBI-double that plated the only CCHS run of the game. With only one out in the inning, Cameron settled back in and retired the next two batters with little difficulty.

Cameron was aided by an offensive effort which was successful in manufacturing runs.

Bedingfield’s small-ball approach lead to three runs in the first inning which was highlighted by a 2-RBI Allen Tucker single. Tucker was also at the lead end of one of the game’s most exciting plays, a suicide squeeze that plated David France. The run was the first of two France scored in the game. The speedster also swiped two bases to apply extra pressure to a struggling Clarke County defensive unit.

The team will next take the field on Friday night when it hosts a double-header with Dallas County. The first game will be at 4 p.m. and the second is scheduled for 6 p.m.
