SWEET WATER &8212; Anthony James Mitchell, 55, of Sweet Water, died Feb. 15, 2008, in Huntingdon Beach, Calif. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at the Independent Baptist Church in Sweet Water. The Rev. S. L. Hives officiated.

Interment followed in Jackson Cemetery in Sweet Water.

Larkin&Scott Funeral directors of Demopolis were in charge of the arrangements.

He was the son of Council and Clementine Mitchell, who both preceded him in death. Mitchell was the second of nine children, one brother, Frederick Mitchell Sr., preceded in death in 1988.

He attended Coxheath Jr. High School in Kalamazoo Central High School and later became a licensed professional caseworker for the State of Michigan.

Survivors include two children, Anthony Mitchell Jr. and Angela Mitchell of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two brothers, Leroy Mitchell Sr. of Detroit and Gregory and Marion Mitchell of Sweet Water; one step-brother, Edward Glover of Moss Point, Miss.; five sisters, Pauline Duncan and husband, Adam, of Louisville, Ky., Jacqueline Wiggins and Jennifer Murphy and husband, Alton, of Lakewood, Calif., Kathy Mitchell-Thomas of Houston, Texas and Lisa Mitchell of Huntingdon Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren; brothers-in-spirit, whom he loved dearly, Melvin Tensley and Albert Williams and a host of other relatives and friends.
