Tigers tamed at Bryant

The DHS soccer team suffered a difficult 10-0 loss on the road at Bryant Saturday. After finding his team down 5-0 at halftime, Demopolis High School soccer coach Peter Keen decided to give some of his reserves an opportunity to prove themselves.

The Tigers will hope to catch section foe John Carroll on an off day tonight when it hosts the juggernaut at 5 p.m. The Cavaliers come into Demopolis undefeated, having scored 29 goals through their first four games.

Varsity softball splits five games at Hillcrest Tournament

The Tigers (4-3-1) managed only five runs over five games last weekend to walk away from the Hillcrest Tournament with a 2-2-1 record.

DHS opened the pool-play tournament with a 3-2 loss to American Christian Academy in a game that saw Sara Davis strike out five batters while going 1-2 at the plate with an RBI. Devin Latham supplied her share of offense, going 2-3 with a homerun in the game.

Game two saw a pitcher&8217;s duel that lead to DHS and Thompson battling to a scoreless tie at the end of the 70-minute time limit. Davis filled the circle again for the Tigers, striking out two over her four innings of work.

The Demopolis bats were once again quieted in the third game against Baker. Davis&8217; six-strikeout performance was dominant enough to cling to a 1-0 lead and get DHS its first win of the weekend. Brandi McGee went 1-2 with a double in the game. Tera Schroeder came up with the RBI-knock that scored Victoria Morgan.

Jasmine Simmons scored two runs in the fourth game to give DHS the 2-0 victory over Northview. Devin Latham also went 1-3 with an RBI in that contest.

The ladies dropped their final game of the tournament to Dothan 8-0. Simmons went 1-2 in the game.

His team will resume play Saturday when it visits Northridge in a game scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

JV softball makes strides at weekend tournament

The junior varsity girls started the weekend off with an 8-0 loss to Hoover before rebounding to pick up an 8-1 win over American Christian Academy. Kathleen Randall put together a 2-3 day at the plate, knocking in two runs and scoring two of her own while Madison Poole drew three walks, making the trip home every occasion. The offensive output was more than enough to make Melanie McCrory&8217;s six-strikeout performance standup and even the team&8217;s record at 1-1.

The third game of the weekend saw the Tigers drop a hard-fought contest to Brookwood 3-2. Jordan Cramer went 2-2, swiped two bases and scored both of the DHS runs. Vanicka Williams also had two steals in the game.

In the weekend&8217;s fourth game, Demopolis bested Thomasville 10-1. Williams scored three runs in the game while Poole, Carly Latham and Brooke Bryant each added two.

DHS carried a lead into the fourth inning of their final game, eventually falling to hosting Hillcrest 5-2. Cramer and Williams accounted for both Tiger runs in the game.

The girls, 2-3, will attempt to pull their record even when they visit Northridge this Saturday.

JV baseball wallops Dallas County to move to 3-1

The Demopolis High School junior varsity baseball team plated 27 runs on the road against Dallas County Friday night to take both ends of a double-header.

DHS entered the fourth inning of game one trailing 7-4 before putting together a 13-run rally to put the contest out of reach at 17-7. The bats stayed hot in the second game as the Tigers reeled off 10 runs over four innings to take the 10-0 victory.

Dillon Goodwin got his first high school start in the second game, giving up no runs over his four innings of work.

Varsity baseball picks up first win before falling apart in Troy

A previously winless DHS team gritted out a 4-3 victory over a formidable Southside-Gadsden squad in its first game on the artificial surface at Troy University.

Demopolis proved unable to capitalize on the momentum in its second game, losing 21-3 to Etowah.

Ramer is confident in his team&8217;s ability, but stresses it must learn how to play to its strengths.

Demopolis, 1-7, will try its luck again Friday when it opens regional play on the road against Dallas County.
