DEMOPOLIS &045; Demopolis Middle School dropped both games of a double-header against visiting American Christian Academy last night.

The Tigers’ scoring got started when catcher Taylor Polk rocketed an RBI double off the base of the left field wall. From there, a back-and-forth contest ensued, with DMS ultimately trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Pitcher Logan Holley found his way on to lead off the inning. The Tigers advanced their starter the old-fashioned way, eventually manufacturing the run when shortstop Daniel Sturdivant hit a chopper to short to plate Holley and tie the game.

Holley again toed the rubber in the fifth inning of a tied ballgame, recording the first two outs of the frame before giving way to reliever Payne Hasty.

Hasty inherited two runners who later came around to score when a defensive miscommunication lead to a critical error.

Following another Tiger miscue, the Patriots plated their final run of the game on a bang-bang play at that plate to push the game to its final score, 7-4.

The Tigers’ struggles continued in the second game as they fell to ACA 12-1. Errors continued to plague DMS throughout the game as it was unable to back up the combined pitching efforts of William Stewart, Wesley Anderson, Tucker Jones and Alex Sturdivant.

The Tigers now turn their attention to Saturday when they will host the second annual DMS tournament. Opening ceremonies for the round-robin-style contest will take place at 9 a.m. with games beginning immediately afterward.

Bradley’s team will open play against Martin Middle School at 9:15 a.m. while Sweet Water plays Clarke County.
