Richard Dale True

GREENSBORO &8212; Richard Dale True, 79, of Greensboro, died on March 7, 2008, at his residence in Greensboro. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on March 9, 2008, at the Newbern Cemetery with the Rev. Alton Phillips officiating the service. Kirk Funeral homes Greensboro Chapel directed.

True was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Hale County to Richard Hardin and Martha Dale True. True was a pioneer in the catfish industry in the early 1960s his story is written about in the book &8220;Fishing for Gold&8221;. True, along with friends, C.O. Stephens and Bryant Allen, started STRAL Hatchery in Newbern in 1969, during the beginning of the catfish industry. True was a member of the Board of Directors at the Citizens Bank, elder at the Newbern Presbyterian Church, member of the American Legion, veteran of the United States Air Force and a supporter of the Boy Scouts. True was alum of Auburn University and a lifelong supporter of his Auburn Tigers.

His parents, one brother, William Hardin True, and his first wife, Stella B. True, precede him in death.

True is survived by his wife, Charlotte Stewart True, one daughter, Frances Byars True Sullivan and husband, Michael W., of Newbern, three sons, Todd Dale True and wife, Amy of Seattle, Rodney Lowell James and wife, Lisa of Orange Beach, Joel Stewart James and wife, Kate of Niceville, Fla., and eight grandchildren.

The honorary pallbearers were Board of Directors at the Citizen&8217;s Bank, Ralph Cothran, and Rencher Hall.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Richard True&8217;s memory to the Newbern Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 351, of Newbern, the Newbern Cemetery Fund P.O. Box 276 of Newbern or the charity of your choice.
