DEMOPOLIS &8212; Following a 25-3 regional victory over Wilcox Central, the Tigers lost a 3-0 heartbreaker to Jackson in a makeup game from Saturday&8217;s rain out.

The first game saw Demopolis (3-8, 2-0) reach the quarter of a century mark in runs in a game that more than doubled its previous season high in scoring. Scott Cannon started the game on the mound, pitching two innings and striking out five while picking up the win. He was relieved in a joint effort by Cameron Barger, Jacob Kerby and Chase Cameron who combined to fan six batters over three innings.

The offensive effort was spurred by Drew Waldrop&8217;s 5-RBI, three-run performance. Cannon added three runs while Larry Dunn, Rob Rorie, Ben Pettus, Shelby Speegle and Demarcus James each scored two. Pettus, Palmer O&8217;Neal, Trey Oates and Walter Hudgens each knocked in two runs.

The Tigers&8217; second game turned into a pitcher&8217;s duel as Speegle tossed six innings of two-hit baseball, striking out six Aggie batters along the way.

Speegle issued a walk to the game&8217;s first batter, who later came around to score thanks in large part to an error.

In perhaps the most frustrating missed chance of the evening, the DHS half of the third inning ended on a controversial call. Waldrop reached on a two-out single. An errant throw on a pickoff attempt landed the leftfielder at third and sent the Tiger dugout into a frenzy. However, their jubilation was short lived and quickly replaced with bewilderment as the Jackson pitcher threw to second base in an appeal of the play. The field umpire ruled Waldrop had missed the bag at second and that the inning was over.

DHS also came away empty-handed after getting the leadoff man on in the fifth and failed to plate a runner after getting men on the corners with only one down in the sixth.

While he and his staff attempt to figure out a cure for the offensive woes, Ramer is determined not to waste the opportunities such situations present.

The Tigers will look to rebound tonight when they host Paul Bryant at 6 p.m.
