Samuel Woods

LAUREL, Md. &8212; Samuel Woods died on Wednesday afternoon, March 5, 2008, at Laurel Regional Hospital in Laurel, Md. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. at J.B. Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel in Landover, Md. on Thursday, March 13, 2008. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., following the visitation, with interment in the Ressurection Cemetery in Clinton, Md.

He was born in Demopolis to Sam Woods Sr. and Fannie Scott Woods on Jan. 11, 1935. Both of whom preceded him in death.

Woods accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Demopolis. He attended public schools in Demopolis, where he graduated from U.S. Jones High School in the class of 1956. Upon graduating from high school, he left Alabama to relocate to Washington, D.C. Later in life, Sam Jr. changed his name to Samuel.

Other family members preceding him in death are his sister, Clara W. Robinson and three brothers, John W. Woods, James C. Woods and Threat Woods.

He is survived by three daughters, Sandra Craggett, of Fort Washington, Md.; Mildred Williams, and her husband, the Rev. Alvarado, of Bowie, Md., and Marlene Johnson, and husband, Lawrence, of Clinton, Md., two sisters, Fannie G. Woods, of New York City and Martha Nichol, and husband, Peter, of Lilburn, Ga.; one brother, Edward Woods, and wife, Betty, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren of Maryland and one sister-in-law, Dorothy L. Woods, of Demopolis. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
