DEMOPOLIS &8212; Conventional wisdom says murderers are caught within the first 48 to 72 hours following the crime.

But that doesn&8217;t mean that the Demopolis Police Department has given up on finding the killer of Randy Douglas Warren. Warren, 37, was shot to death at his residence, 507 North Ash St. on Feb. 16. Now, nearing the two-month mark following Demopolis&8217; first murder in two years, investigators hope they can still find the key to unlock a case that grows colder by the day.

Authorities sent evidence to the state crime lab in hopes that fingerprints or other trace evidence will result in a suspect &8212; but so far, the leads are few and far between.

Officers are tight-lipped when it comes to the details surrounding Warren&8217;s death.

However, Soronen said that the motive for the crime doesn&8217;t appear to be robbery.

Warren was found around several hours after he was killed when a friend became concerned that the victim didn&8217;t answer his phone, Soronen said.

When police canvassed the neighborhood, several people reported hearing gunfire &8212; but no one reported the shots at the time they were fired.

A witness told police that two men jumped into the passenger side of a waiting car, so Soronen believes police are looking for three suspects.
