Putting for Relay

The fourth annual Rock-Tenn Charity Golf Tournament drew a crowd of 157 golfers and raised an estimated $18,000 for Relay for Life, an approximate $6,000 increase over last year&8217;s tourney. The hosts nearly doubled their participation in the annual event compared to last year.

The Big Top

The Demopolis Rotary Club is sponsoring the Carson and Barnes Circus with two performances today. The event will be held at Demopolis High School at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. The sponsors assure the crowd this will be a show no one will want to miss. Funds raised during the circus for the club will be donated to various charities throughout the city.

Blue Ribbon support

Door handles and signs throughout the county are adorning blue ribbons this month in observance Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Marengo County Department of Human Resources is using the campaign as a time to spread the word about this serious problem, as they have for the past four years. We ask area businesses to join the county DHR in their efforts and support the awareness of this cause.

Taking care of needs

West Alabama Mental Health and its satellite offices in Greensboro, Eutaw, Livingston and Butler will be the collection sites for donations of socks and school supplies to benefit foster children around the state. The program began last year with the Alabama Foster and Adoptive Parents Association. The AFAPA collected more than 16,000 pairs of shoes for foster children statewide.

Library Face-lift

The Marengo County Library is moving forward with their expansion project, after securing money from a state incentive fund grant. With their new location Librarian Joyce Morgan has been in the process of applying for grants to renovate the building to accommodate their growing needs. The library received news it was awarded $80,000 from the Alabama Public School and College Incentive Fund.
