DEMOPOLIS &8212; Despite defensive struggles and occasional mental lapses, the Tigers pulled an 8-5 win at home over area rival Greenville to remain unbeaten in area play.

His team was without two of its mainstays, seniors Brandi McGee and Morgan Patterson. McGee is out of action due to a wrist injury that was aggravated during a recent contest with Dallas County while Patterson sustained a knee injury, which reportedly could be season ending, during the weekend tournament at Prattville.

In place of the seniors were freshman Tera Schroeder at third and sophomore Carly Latham in right field. The team also received significant contributions from sophomore Kathleen Randall.

Nursing a 6-4 lead in the top of the sixth, mistakes began to plague the Tigers. A misplayed pop fly and a throwing error allowed Greenville to push a runner to third before a sacrifice bunt cut the score to 6-5.

His team did just that in the home half of the sixth inning when freshman Samantha Walker legged out an infield hit before stealing second and third, finishing the trip around the bases when a wild throw found its way into the dugout.

Senior Jasmine Simmons then followed with a walk and a subsequent steal of second base. The Greenville catcher&8217;s attempt to throw out Simmons at second sent the ball into the outfield, allowing the speedster to advance to third. Schroeder&8217;s grounder to second base pushed Simmons across, leaving the game at its 8-5 final.

The Tiger lineup saw six different players score runs, including two each by Walker and Simmons. Randall, Latham, Jordon Cramer and Victoria Morgan also contributed to the Tigers&8217; run total on the afternoon. Simmons and Randall each finished the day 1-for-3 with a triple.

Senior Sara Davis once again pitched the full seven innings, allowing only four hits and striking out 14 batters in the game. The Tigers will travel to play Bibb County Thursday night before returning home to finish regular season area play Friday afternoon against Dallas County.
