The Marengo Academy baseball team has a lot to be proud of today.

The Longhorns took two straight from Southern Academy Wednesday night to claim the AISA AA state championship at Paterson Field in Montgomery. Marengo Academy&8217;s players and coaches must be commended for rebounding from a game one implosion where the Longhorns fell 8-2 on Tuesday.

In Tuesday&8217;s game, Marengo Academy&8217;s Phillip Farmer lost his cool &8212; and the game &8212; by getting into a verbal confrontation with the home plate umpire after giving up all eight. Farmer had a shot at redemption Wednesday night when he came on in relief of Matt Wallace and secured the game two victory for the Longhorns.

Farmer&8217;s turnaround is an example of the entire team&8217;s turnaround from a disappointing game one loss. After that first game, the team and coaches were clearly frustrated. But they made adjustments and kept a positive attitude during the next two contests &8212; including the nail-biting 7-6 finish when Wood Collins advanced from third base on a wild pitch, sliding in safely to claim the state title.

The Longhorns rebounded from a tough loss to come back to Marengo County as champions. For that, they should be commended and congratulated.
