DEMOPOLIS &8212; Tuesday night saw nearly three dozen players from seven area high schools come together to participate in the annual George C. Spence Memorial Alabama Lions All-Star Baseball Game.

The game allowed Demopolis seniors Rob Rorie, John Mackey, Scott Cannon, Palmer O&8217;Neal, Drew Waldrop and Walter Hudgens to don the DHS uniform one more time as they joined junior teammates Shelby Speegle and Jacob Kerby on their home diamond with a host of players from around the area.

Five of those players will advance to another all-star competition in Clanton, where they will be given the opportunity to play for a spot on the teams that will play in Birmingham.

Two of the five players advancing are Marengo County athletes. Speegle will represent Demopolis while senior catcher Scottie Nelson will wear the purple and gold of Sweet Water.

In addition to providing an avenue for area players to show off their abilities, the game raised funds for the Lions Club&8217;s favorite charity.
