DEMOPOLIS &8212; Organizers of the women&8217;s softball league are hopeful of seeing a host of new faces when the group has its first meeting Saturday. The league, previously exclusive to Demopolis teams, is opening up membership to competition from surrounding counties for the first time in its history.

The league typically fields between five and eight teams. In addition to the potential for numerical growth, the decision to open the league up to the surrounding areas also offers other possibilities.

Organizers are hopeful local teams that have been traveling to tournaments in other areas like Gulf Shores and Pensacola, Fla. will take advantage of the opportunity to play in Demopolis.
